Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Hyderabad on September 17 to take part in a Telangana Liberation Day function with a view to corner the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which has been shying away from celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, during his recent visit to Delhi had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Telangana. According to sources, the Prime Minister’s visit to the state would be confirmed in the next 48 hours.

This would be Modi’s first visit to Telangana after it became a separate state. The TRS, during the Telangana agitation, was very vocal about celebrating the Telangana Formation Day officially. They demanded the erstwhile governments to celebrate the day officially.

However, after coming into power in Telangana, no attempt was made to celebrate it officially and it was limited to the party office. Sources said that the BJP leaders wanted to use the same Liberation Day to corner the TRS.
