Hyderabad: Jagadguru Pushpagiri Sankaracharya Vidyasankara Bharati on Saturday exhorted people to take part in the ‘Once-in-a-12-year’ holy event of Krishna Pushkarams and perform various rituals, including paying obsequies to ancestors, and doing charitable acts.

Responding to an invitation extended by the government’s Krishna Pushkara invitation committee, headed by its chairman Dr KV Ramanachary, Vidyasankara Bharati expressed his inability to take part in the event as he was preoccupied with Chaturmasa deeksha and promised to make it to the event if his busy schedule permitted him.

He averred that such lands prosper where rains are timely and Brahmins and sages are held in high esteem and worshipped.

Observing that dharma gives peace of mind, he appreciated the State government for performing religious activities in accordance with Vedic rules. He also added that the rains in Telangana were timely. He appealed to the people to perform religious rituals during the 12-day event and give no scope to ‘adharma’.

Ramanachary said the seer’s blessings were essential to the event which would be attended by lakhs of people. He said many government departments were working to ensure that the event is conducted in an auspicious manner and all arrangements were being made to conduct the Pushkarams at Beechupalli in Mahbubnagar district and at Nagarjunasagar in Nalgonda district.

Endowments commissioner Shivasankar said arrangements were in place at 20 bathing ghats in the two districts. The remaining works including laying the approach roads would be finished by August 1, said the commissioner.

Invitation committee members, Mrutyunjaya Sharma and Harinadha Sarma, editor of ‘Telangana’ magazine Ashtakala Rammohan, endowments joint commissioners Srinivasa Rao and Krishnaveni and disciples of swami Vidya Gajesananda Bharati and others were present.

Earlier, Ramanachary presented a shawl, flowers and fruits to the Jagadguru who offered prasadam to all.
