Hyderabad: The kidnap of a five-year-old girl student by an unidentified woman from a school at Nallakunta in the city on Monday kept the entire police force on their toes for nearly three hours.

The police personnel breathed easy after the girl was found abandoned near a temple in Amberpet area. Police suspect that the kidnapper may have abandoned the girl after taking away her gold earrings.

According to the Nallakunta police, the incident took place at around 10.30 am on Monday, when the girl V Harshitha (5) and her elder brother (6) V Bhanu Prasad were outside the Adikmet Government School.

A woman approached the kids and lured them on the pretext of buying chocolates. Bhanu Prasad refused to go with her, but Harshitha agreed and soon the unidentified woman disappeared from the spot along with Harshitha.

After sometime, Bhanu Prasad complained about this to his mother Divya, who works in a girl’s hostel. Divya, along with some others, searched for Harshitha, but in vain and later lodged a complaint with the Nallakunta police.

Without any delay, two teams of the Nallakunta police swung into action and went in search of the missing girl and also passed on the information to other police stations. At around 1 pm, the Nallakunta police received information that the girl they were searching was found near a temple in Amberpet area.

The Nallakunta police said Divya, a widow from Warangal, had migrated to the city along with her two kids about a year ago and was working as a cook at Government ST Girls’ Hostel at Adikmet.

“Both the kids went to school for Independence Day Celebrations and were returning home when they were stopped by an unknown woman. The boy told us that the woman threatened to complain to their teacher if he and his sister failed to go with her,” said the Nallakunta police.

After sometime, the Amberpet police informed them that the girl was found near Mahankali temple. The girl was rescued and handed over to her mother. But the girl’s golden earrings were missing, the police said.

“It must be the handiwork of a petty thief who had keenly observed the movements of the children and their mother. We are analysing the CC Camera footage of all the nearby locations and are in the process of identifying the suspect,” the police said.
