Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Telangana unit working president, A Revanth Reddy, on Tuesday wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao demanding implementation of either Land Acquisition Act- 2013 or GO No 190 for procuring lands for irrigation and other projects.

He said the High Court had already struck down GO 123 and instructed the government to stop forceful implementation of the order. The modified GO 190 would address all issues raised by petitioners on the rehabilitation of displaced, particularly landless labourers and poor, Revanth said.

The TDP leader questioned why the government made a U-turn on its commitment that the displaced farmers would be given the freedom to get rehabilitation through the Land Act or GO 123.

“Practically, farmers were forced to receive compensation under GO 123,” the TDP leader alleged. Reddy also demanded the State government to announce a policy decision with regard to compensation that would be paid to the landless poor who have been displaced at project sites, and instruct officials to enforce the revised order in true spirit.

The TDP leader threatened to launch an agitation with farmers if the demands were not met. “Our party’s ideology is to protect the interests of backward classes, scheduled castes and tribes in the State,” Revanth said.
