Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan released here on Tuesday the book ‘Trekking over Pebbles: Life through a Hyderabadi’s looking Glass’ written by Mohan Kanda, former chief secretary of the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the Governor said the book, based on real-life episodes and experiences of Mohan Kanda, was worth reading by bureaucrats in particular.
He said that the book not only made an interesting reading, but also gave tips which present-day bureaucrats could emulate. “In the difficult crisis that we people go through many a times.
I think this sort of clarity of thought, confidence and the way to get out of the difficult situations… would be of great help to the bureaucrats.”
He said being part of administration and holding responsible positions, the bureaucrats had to face many a situation where they might tend to lose their cool and sometimes they wondered how to handle a particular situation. This book, based on personal experiences of the writer, could be of help in handling such situations.
Sharing his experience of working with Mohan Kanda, the Governor said Mohan was a ‘Chupa Rustum’. He said Mohan Kanda was his batch mate and both worked in Ongole district. While he was the SP, Mohan Kanda was the Sub-Collector.
Narasimhan said that Mohan Kanda did not face any challenges during his tenure as Ongole SP. “You should thank me... all this opportunities you have got because I left Ongole. If I had continued in Ongole, you would never have got these chances to defuse the situations,” the Governor said.
Governor said that Mohan Kanda spoke depending on what the situation warranted and added that in his long ‘distinguished’ service to resolve many critical situations, he had shown these qualities in abundance. “That is why we think of this man even today.”
He quoted former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s words, saying ‘Uncha Mastak Ubhra Seena… Jeena ho toh Aisa Jeena’, adding Mohan Kanda reflected it.
Mohan Kanda questioned the policies of the government like announcing loan waiver and interest waiver. “Don’t help farmer, stay out of his way at least…why can’t you do even that and why are you doing wrong things like loan waiver and interest waiver?
These are dangerous and harmful and known to be so. Why can’t the leaders have shortlist of options like babies will not die, women will live in dignity, farmers will not be forced to kill themselves in distress,” said Mohan Kanda.
