Hyderabad: Mobile phones are all set to play the role of employment exchanges, thanks to the decision of Central government to convert traditional employment exchanges into National Career Service (NCS) centres. According to Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya, the Central government has so far released Rs 200 crore for converting 1,000 employment exchanges into NCS centres.

Under the previous system, job-seekers had to physically visit the employment exchanges for registration, verification of their records and wait for opportunities to come their way. Similarly, the employers had to visit the employment exchanges for posting job vacancies and obtaining a list of eligible candidates with little flexibility. Thus, leaving the job-seekers and employers not satisfied with the results.

Under the new system, the NCS portal provides a nation-wide online platform for job-seekers and employers for job matching in a dynamic, efficient and responsive manner. These centres will have the database of candidates as well as the job-providers.

Once a job-seeker registers on the portal, they are given a unique identification (ID) number, followed by which they would receive a message on their mobile phone providing the job description and availability of skill-based jobs in various companies.

The NCS also provides information on skill-development courses, apprenticeship and internship among others. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have already integrated the NCS portal. According to Dattatreya, the Centre has released Rs 110 crore last year for Telangana and would be releasing Rs 193 crore this year.
