Following rumours that higher officials in banks were getting benefitted by indulging in exchange of old notes with new ones after demonetisation, two of the accused possessing fire arms decided to target Manmath Dalai who was residing at Shanti Nagar, Masab Tank.
They felt that the bank official was keeping huge stock of new currency notes at his residence and they could easily rob him at gunpoint. According to police officials, Shaik Abdul Raheem, 30, a cook and resident of Rajendra Nagar and native of Nellore district, along with Erva Naresh, 23, a tea master in IBM Company and native of Mahbubnagar, conspired to rob the bank official. While Naresh dropped the prime accused near the apartment of the victim at Shanti Nagar in Masab Tank, Raheem entered the apartment citing false reference to the watchman.
After a failed attempt, Abdul Raheem, fearing arrest, left for Koyyalagudem and from there to Madurai in Tamil Nadu and also visited Tiruchi and other places. “The Task Force teams and the West Zone Police took this as challenge and travelled across four States and tracked the accused, after taking a cue from the vehicle number and CCTV footage,” said M Mahender Reddy, City Police Commissioner.
