Warangal Urban: Pandemonium prevailed at the MGM Hospital for some time on Sunday as a four-day-old girl child declared dead by the doctors was brought back to the hospital by the parents claiming that the child was alive.

The baby was born three days ago at a private hospital with several complications and was underweight. The parents Srinivas and Swapna of Pegadapalli in Kazipet brought their baby weighing only 450 grams at birth to MGMH on June 30 on the advice of doctors at the private hospital.

On Sunday at 12 noon, duty doctor Sirajuddin at NICU had reportedly declared the baby dead and issued a death certificate. The parents who took the baby to the cremation ground for the last rites observed some movements in the body and rushed the baby back to the hospital.

The parents and relatives complained that the doctors acted negligently and declared the baby dead. After putting the baby on ventilator and examining the doctors again declared the child dead as they could not find the heartbeat.

In-charge medical officer Dr Boja Naik told the presspersons that any new born child with a weight below 500 grams was considered as abortion clinically and survival rate would be nil. After the child’s admission, she was put on oxygen. The child was declared dead after examining the heartbeat and ECG which was flat, he said.
