New Delhi: Chief Spokesperson of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Sravan Dasoju, here on Monday, criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for his flip-flops on the GST system. Demanding a white paper on the impact of GST on the State revenues, he sought an all-party meeting to discuss the issue threadbare.

Referring to the oft-changing stance of the Chief Minister on GST, he sought to know whether KCR had any understanding of the system at all. "Is the GST beneficial to the State or not? Whether it dents the State revenues or not? What is the exact burden on the State exchequer? KCR now says it is Rs 19,000 crore. Earlier, while hailing the GST and passing the resolution in the Assembly he said it was a great taxation system and the State would profit," he recalled.

Questioning why Minister K Taraka Rama Rao was attending the GST meetings instead of the Finance Minister, Sravan sought to know whether there were any vested interests in this regard. If the GST was burdensome and was affecting the common man, the State government should protest the same strongly and take the Centre to task. Instead, it was trying to please the Centre, he added.

Eatala Rajender had submitted a report to the Centre in the past stating that the State would lose Rs 3,000 crore revenue due to GST. Secondly, it was also stated that GST burden on the ongoing projects would be to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore. Similarly, the Commercial Tax revenue would come down by Rs 6, 000 crore the estimate stated then.

But, KCR brushed aside all those objections to welcome the GST hailing it as a game changer in the country when it was introduced. His party MPs stood along with the BJP and NDA allies in dubbing it as a visionary policy in Parliament.

KCR knew all along that the GST would affect handloom sector and yet did not bother to raise the issue with the Centre and protest. It was shameful that the TRS supported the BJP in the elections to the Presidential and Vice-Presidential offices at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, attributing ulterior motives to KCR's changing tunes on the GST issue.
