Danger lurks on rain-ravaged roads in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The roads in the city turned bad to worse with the rains for the past 10 days and they have become bumpy with too many patches and many potholes. During the past more than one week, roads are flooded with water.

There have been many traffic jams on several important road junctions causing inconveniences to the commuters. People trying to reach their offices, homes and other destinations have been facing hardships due to heavy traffic.

Whenever it rains the main areas like Tarnaka, Habsiguda, Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Patny Centre, Paradise, SP Road, Begumpet, Panjagutta, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Madhapur and Hitec City areas are badly affected. Though the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has done patchwork on the potholes, the problems continue to remain the same.

A commuter, A Rahul said, ``I stay at Malkajgiri, a month back to travel from my house to my office at Mind Space it would take an hour; but now it is taking more than two hours because of heavy traffic to reach my office.” K Ramu, a commuter, said, ``On the way to Secunderabad, I watched a lady skid due to the potholes on the road.

Though the bystanders helped her immediately, she was severely injured.” A Venkatesh, another commuter said, ``At Jubilee Hills near Cream Stone, there are many potholes. And with the Metro Rail construction in this area, the road is very congested and it is difficult for a motorist to commute.”

GHMC Chief Engineer Md. Ziauddin said, ``We are working on the potholes but with the continuous rains, the work has been delayed. To fill the potholes the roads should be dry and we are working area wise.”
