Hyderabad: CPI National general secretary Survaram Sudhakar Reddy said the sacrifices made by 4,500 communists had merged the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union.

Addressing the party leaders and workers marking the 92nd foundation day celebrations held at the party office here on Tuesday, he said “Those who had extended their cooperation to the British are now finding fault with the communist ideology.”

He said that the party took birth on December 26, 1925, at Khanpur in Uttar Pradesh, following the meetings organised by the youth of those days.

Though the party was suppressed by the British, the movement had attracted stalwarts like Periyar and Ramaswamy towards socialism. Even those among the Congress Socialist Forum (CSF) were attracted to the communist ideology. Even freedom fighter like Bhagat Singh had read the book on the establishment of socialism before he was hanged by the British, he added.

It was the Indian Communist Party which led the Telangana Armed Struggle against the dictatorial rule of the Nizam. Though the party had been banned from participating in 1952 general elections, later, it had been playing the role of the opposition party contributing to the welfare of the people.

It was due to the communist party’s efforts that lakhs of acres of land has been distributed to the poor and revolutionary changes were brought among the workers' unions in the country, he said.

Earlier, marking the 92nd foundation day, State CPI secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, along with the party leaders and workers took out a rally from AITUC office to party headquarters in Himayatnagar.
