Awareness programmes and rallies have marked the World Blood Donors Day celebrations in the district on Thursday. The district medical and health department officials, members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Warangal chapter and Youth for Society and nursing students took out a rally from Kakatiya Medical College to MGM Hospital in Warangal.

A meeting was later conducted at IMA hall. Speaking on the occasion, the medical college Principal Dr Chandrashekar stressed on the importance of blood donation. Donating blood was a life-saving act as precious lives could be saved in medical emergencies.
DMHO Dr B Harishraj and additional DMHO Dr Madanmohan Rao appealed the youth to come forward to donate blood as frequently as possible. They emphasised on the need of educating rural masses to help them get rid of apprehensions they have regarding blood donation.
IMA district president Dr Madishetty Sudeep, its secretary Dr Surender Reddy and others were present. In a similar programme, Youth for Society organised blood donation awareness rally. Educationist Chanda Vijay Kumar, the society president Kodimala Sreenivas Rao, AVV Junior College Principal S Anitha, NSS programme officer B Gopi, S Rajesh, A Pavan Kalyan, Ratnakar, Shirisha, Sandhya, Yashwanth and others were present.
Meanwhile, the IRCS Warangal chapter received accolades from Governor ESL Narasimhan, the president of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Telangana and AP chapters. He presented Best Voluntary Blood Donor Awards to T Jagadishwari Devi and P Jitender.
He also presented Best Blood Donation Motivator Awards to Parkal MLA Ch Dharma Reddy and the IRCS state managing committee member EV Srinivas Rao, commemorating ‘World Blood Donor Day’ celebrations at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday.
The Governor, during an interaction with the IRCS chairman Dr P Vijay Chander Reddy and the awards winners, appreciated for their efforts in saving lives by voluntary blood donation and by organising camps.
An STI counsellor for AIDS/HIV at MGM Hospital, Keerthy Sathish Kumar also received State Best Blood Donor Award from Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy at a programme organised by AIDS Control Department in Hyderabad on Thursday. He donated blood 45 times.
