New Delhi: The State government on Thursday came down heavily on the Centre for failing to keep the promises of tribal varsity, IIM to Hyderabad, IIIT to Karimnagar, Navodya Schools to new districts, extension of midday meal scheme to Intermediate and sanctioning of Jawahar Navodaya Schools and Kendriya Schools in new districts. It also urged the Centre to give special status to Telangana State if it gives SCS to Andhra Pradesh.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari alleged that the Centre was not responding to Telangana’s repeated appeals for educational institutions. He called on Union Human Resources Minister Prakash Javadekar in Delhi and forwarded a memorandum on the State demands for educational institutions and others as per AP Reorganisation Act.

Speaking to media persons here later, Srihari took exception to the Centre for its failure to respond positively to Telangana’s demands. He expressed surprise at the Centre why it did not respond to the demand to set up educational institutions and tribal varsity despite agreeing to allot land as promised in the bifurcation Act. Srihari slammed the Andhra Pradesh government for playing dual standards on special status issue.

The Deputy Chief Minister also ridiculed that political parties in Andhra Pradesh were launching movements for special status only for political mileage.

Thus, he said, the Telugu Desam Party chief and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was adopting double standards on the SCS. “We have no problem if the Centre accords the special category to the AP,” he said adding that it should also be given the same special status to Telangana State simultaneously.
