Hyderabad: Asthma cases are on the rise in the city, and children are the most affected. According to city doctors, about 25 to 30 new cases of children affected by Asthma come to them on average in a month.

“There is a rise in allergic asthma in northern part of the city where most of IT companies and migrants are present, compared to the rest of Hyderabad where infectious diseases are more prevalent, especially in the last 2-3 years,” said Dr Suman Kumar, Pediatric Pulmonologist at Ankura Hospital, Hyderabad.

“Approximately one-third of the population from the city will develop asthma at some time, mostly before the age of 20,” he added. The reasons for the prevalence of asthma in the city include a rapid increase of plying vehicles, lack of proper ventilation at houses and schools leading to rise in indoor pollution, food habits, nutritional deficiencies, hereditary pre-dispositions and ignorance of Asthma amongst parents.
