Khammam: To bring greater transparency in collecting fines from traffic violators in Khammam city, the city Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal launched an e-challan system here on Wednesday.

For providing better and uniform services across the State, as per the orders issued by the State DGP, the e-challan system is introduced in the city, said the CP.

Launching the system by issuing e-challans to the traffic violators, top cop Tafseer Iqbal said that each hand-held equipment is connected to the central server using GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and the data entered by traffic personnel would be stored in the server at the traffic police control room in the city police commissioner’s office.

“Data of all vehicles registered with the regional transport offices in the city have been entered into the central registry in the traffic police control room. Each entry of violation will be stored in a separate folder on the computer. This enables us to get to frequent violators,” said the CP.

E-challan will be issued to those motorists doing triple riding, rash driving, driving without license and drunk and driving, driving without any documents, he added.

Already awareness programmes have been conducted on e-challan system to the people along with conducting counseling to the parents and children who are minor about traffic rules. Digital cameras are given to the trained traffic constables so that they can take the pictures of vehicles and drivers who violate traffic rules to issue the notices directly to the mobile number of vehicle owner, said Tafseer Iqbal.

The people can upload the details of their vehicles through M-Wallet app by taking the photos of documents and can show to the traffic police whenever they ask along with checking the details of their vehicles through www.echalan.org official website, he added.

Additional DCP Muralidhar, Traffic ACP Sada Niranjan, Town ACP Venkatrao, SB ACP Sathyanarayana, Circle Inspector Venkata Narasaiah, SI’s Srinivas and Chiranjeevi and other officers were present on the occasion.
