Hyderabad: The picturesque Delhi Public School at Nacharam wore a festive look on the eve of Children’s Day as 1,800 students from 30 schools in the city vied for a spot in the finals of a painting competition that is to be held on Wednesday. The painting competition is being organised by Delhi Public School and Pallavi Group of Schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Sunitha Rao, Principal, Delhi Public School, advised the students to flow their ideas onto canvas. The theme ‘Draw a dream’ touched a chord with the students who came up with a medley of ideas.

The competition was divided into two categories; for Grade 1-5 and 6-10. Out of the 1,800 students, 284 students entered the finals. Some of the winners would be given away bicycles, laptops and school bags apart from other items.

A kaleidoscope of colours came out of the painting competition. Revanth, a student was seen painting trees with a stream flowing by. When asked, pat came the reply, “The earth is getting warmer and we need more trees and greenery.” Another girl was seen capturing Charminar in twilight, yet another student gave wings to her imagination as she painted a mother and child strolling along a beachside with the sun setting in the backdrop.

Caring for a greener Earth is what one could gauge was favourite idea that found resonance among students. A senior teacher who was passing by said, “This shows that the future is in good hands as so many students care for the Earth.”

Another topic that caught the imagination of students was Swachh Bharat as a concept. Quite a few took pains to show the idea on paper. A few even drew Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic spectacles, symbolic of the idea. The jury comprised eminent painters from Satguru Drawing Schools, Hyderabad.
