Hyderabad: The unusual rain on Thursday night for just an hour was enough for water logging in several parts of the city. People who were returning home after 8 pm were in for a surprise as it started to pour and were shocked to find streets filled with water on Friday morning. Alwal, West and East Marredpally, Malkajgiri, Malakpet, Begumpet, Punjagutta and several other areas witness rainfall. The officials at the Met department attribute the unusual rainfall to depression in the Bay of Bengal.

The residents of Malkajgiri, Anandbagh, Dayanandnagar were the most affected and some low lying areas in Vajpayee Nagar too bore the brunt. The minimum temperature stood at 19 degree centigrade. Residents were caught off-guard due to the sudden shower and some reacted rather sharply. Shalini Chadda, a resident of Malkajgiri said, “One hopes that the new government looks into roads and potholes and improves the storm water drains in the city.” R V N Murthy, a retired railway engineer said, “Just an hour of rain is enough to bring the city to its knees. The government talks about world class city. It is the roads and the drainage system that reflects the city.”
