Marri dares EC to disprove his charge on preparing voters’ list

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Election Commission Coordination Committee chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Friday dared the Election Commission to disprove his claim of negligence on the part of the Commission in preparing voters’ list.
Addressing the media along with members of the committee G Niranjan, Kamalakar Rao, Shyam Rao and Narendar, Shashidhar Reddy said the officials had violated several rules in preparing the voters’ list.
He said the Election Commission officials had failed to prepare the electors’ photo identity cards as per the rules. He challenged the EC to show whether any such card was prepared by the booth-level officers. He said according to the manual of election rolls, 2016, booth- level officers should visit each house and note down details of each member of the house. An electors’ photo identify card should be prepared with the details and a copy of it should be handed over to the head of the family.
Shashidhar Reddy said the local bodies should have a three years record of the electoral rolls. Though hundreds of crores of rupees were spent to prepare the voters’ list, lakhs of voters did not find their names in the list.
He said that the Chief Electoral Officer has been working for the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He said nowhere in the country such a faulty voters’ list could be found.
