Hyderabad: This is the time of examinations. Come March, students from Class X to PG are caught in exam fever and tuitions are an inseparable part. The difference though, unlike the past, this generation is looking to online tuition teachers. According to rough estimates, there are close to 100 teachers in the city who give online tuitions, charging anywhere between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 per hour.
Dr B Rout of Metropolitan Academy in Banjara Hills says, “I am currently tutoring 15 students of which two are from UK, 4 from USA, 3 from Singapore and 6 from Bengaluru. I take around 10 classes which are of one-hour duration in a month for each student and it costs around Rs 2,000 for Indian students and 50$-60$ for US students.
In many cases, Skype is the mode of teaching. Many students opt for online tuitions as it is convenient. “I took online tuitions for three months for competitive exams after I completed my Class12. There I no need to travel and one can decide on a time. I choose to take Chemistry and Biology, it was beneficial. It was very convenient and there were no distractions of other people. The tutor covered the entire syllabus and cleared my doubts,” says Sushruthi, a BDS student.
“If I compare my experiences with online and conventional tuitions, I would definitely choose online tuition,” says Keerthana, who takes online tuitions for her Intermediate syllabus.
The convenience of online tuitions comes handy for women post marriage. For instance, Kalyani, a Chemistry teacher shares, “After I gave birth to a baby I started giving online tuitions. Initially, it started with one student but over a period the number grew.”
Raghav, a Maths teacher, says, “There is an allotted time and individual attention can be given. Thanks to technology, we can also watch the person.” “For 10th class Maths syllabus, we charge around Rs 6,500/- monthly, it may seem costly for some students, but we really take care of every aspect of the syllabus and make sure the student is thorough and perfect in everything. It is not only syllabus oriented but we also focus from the exam point of view,” says Ramesh, a teacher of Akshara Tuitions.
The other kind in online tuitions is video tutorials which are topic based. They are pre filmed and uploaded online in sites like Youtube. Unlike the standard online tuitions, these have a wide range of topics like photography to Home Science.
