Jamiat takes up family survey of Qureshis

Khilwat: Jamiat-ul-Quresh, a leading organisation representing Muslim community (whose members are engaged in meat business), hopes to identify and resolve social problems within the community which considered to be economically backward. They undertook an internal (private) census along with social survey of the Qureshi community in the city.
According to the organisation, there are more than 3 crore Qureshi community members in the country and there are about 4 lakhs in Telangana state. The census of community was done 15 years ago. “On the instruction of Jamiat-ul-Quresh Telangana state president, Mohammed Moin Babu Chowdary and Hyderabad president Mohammed Saleem, who is the Chairman of TS Wakf Board, the Jamait-ul-Quresh started the internal census in the areas of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Around more than 50,000 members were registered for census so far and more than a lakh can be registered by the end of the survey,” said Mohammed Fareeduddin Qureshi, General Secretary, Jamait-ul-Quresh.
Speaking to The Hans India, Mohammed Fareeduddin Qureshi said, “The internal census of the community was done 15 years back, but since there is no census record for the community, on the orders of the president and members, the Jamait started the internal census for the community. This community comes under economically backward class (BC-E). After this internal census, the Jamait can know the exact population in community. The internal census was started on February 12 and will be completed on March 12. After the survey in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, we shall be covering other districts of the State,” he added.
The internal census of the population also includes social survey and it covers such details as total members in family, widows in family, unemployment status etc. Through this social survey, Jamait wishes to identify the social problems of the community members.
Fareed Qureshi also said that, the procedure for the registration for the internal census of Jamait is production of identity proof like Aadhaar card or Voter IDs of the whole family and the passport size photo of head of the family. After registration, an acknowledgement will be given. This registration is now done manually and later the data would be uploaded online. After 3 months, a family card will be issued by the Jamait. “Using this ‘family card,’ family members can take help from the Jamait for scholarships for education, monetary help for marriages, pension for widows, etc. Now, the Jamait is providing pension for 650 widows, scholarships for the needy students and is also helping in conduct of marriages, Fareed Qureshi explained.
