Hanamkonda: Rich tributes were paid to the freedom fighter and former minister late Tiruvarangam Hayagreeva Chary, marking his birth centenary on Friday.

Grand celebrations were held here on the day under the aegis of district Congress and Jayanti Utsava Committee to offer tributes and to recall the leaders’ services. He was born on November 25, 1916 at Dharmasagar in Warangal district and was a close aide of former PM late PV Narasimha Rao.

TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, former TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, government advisor S Venugopala Chary, Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhasker, MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, district Congress president N Rajender Reddy and Archaka Samakhya leader G Upendra Sharma were among those, who paid homage to Hayagreeva Chary.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam Kumar Reddy said though Hayagreeva Chary was considered as a stalwart politician in his time and though he was a Congress man the leaders of all the political parties used to honour him.

Lakshmaiah said Hayagreeva Chary had served as the first chairman of Warangal Municipality and later become minister. He fought against the atrocities of Nizams of Hyderabad and was staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi.

‘He made great contribution in setting up Ayurveda College and Regional Engineering College (Now called NIT) in Warangal, besides making efforts for the development of Warangal city and the district,’ Lakshmaiah said.

City Congress president K Srinivas Rao, its working president Rajanala Srihari, BC Cell leader P Padma, former MLAs K Sridhar and P Veeraiah, senior leaders Banda Prakash, Siricilla Rajaiah, TRSV leader K Vasudeva Reddy and others offered floral tributes Havagreeva Chary statue at Hanamkonda Chowrastha.
