All India Radio, Warangal centre is hosting ‘Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan’ in Hanamkonda on Saturday. Warangal AIR is selected to host the sammelan after a gap of 12 years and concerts in devotional and light music genres besides a folk art performance, which will be presented by select artistes. The event will take place at Arts and Science College auditorium at 6:30 pm.

Warangal: All India Radio, Warangal centre is hosting ‘Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan’ in Hanamkonda on Saturday. Warangal AIR is selected to host the sammelan after a gap of 12 years and concerts in devotional and light music genres besides a folk art performance, which will be presented by select artistes. The event will take place at Arts and Science College auditorium at 6:30 pm.

This annual musical concert is being held simultaneously at 23 other centres across India with each centre hosting a specific genre of music, informed the Assistant Director and Programme Head, AIR and Doordarshan Kendra, M V Vara Prasad.

The types of concerts to be held are decided going by the preferences of people of a particular region. Since people in Telangana known to enjoy light and devotional music those music genres are selected for the event.

Warangal’s recognition as the best heritage city has helped to gain more points during the selection of centres for this year’s Sangeet Sammelan in which 25 top-grade artists are going to take part. Artists from the present Andhra Pradesh are assigned to perform in Telangana as artists, said Vara Prasad.

K Sudha Rani, a highly acclaimed devotional music artiste of Visakhapatnam accompanied by M Satyanarayana on violin, M Ravi on mridangam, B Dhananjaya on tabla and G Venkatesh on morsing will recite devotional music.

Noted play back singers D Surekha Murthy and K Kalyan Vasanth with composer K Suryanarayana Deekshithulu will present light music concert. The concert features a folk art performance, Gandaligara Katha by Venkatappa Ambaji Sugatekar and party of Dharwad.

The recorded concerts of the sammelan will be broadcast on the national hook-up from all capital and regional stations of AIR also on the exclusive classical music channel ‘Raagam” on DTH beginning from November 4. Warangal concert will be broadcast AIR, Warangal on December 7.

The timings of broadcast are 10 pm to 11 pm on weekdays and 9.30 pm to 11 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The two morning concerts on Sundays will be broadcast on November 19 and December 10, 10 am to 12 noon.
