Hanamkonda: One library in each of four newly sanctioned corporation circle offices would be set up soon, informed Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Mayor N Narender. An amount of one crore rupees has been allocated for the development of libraries in the city under Smart City Mission, the Mayor said addressing a gathering at 50th National Library Week celebrations at district central library in Hanamkonda on Tuesday.
The Mayor further informed that the State government has recently sanctioned four new circles in addition to the two existing circles in the city. One floor in the proposed circle offices would be allotted for setting up the libraries and the district library authorities must take steps for setting up the library.
Mayor Narender noted that there was a need to increase the number of libraries in the city in accordance with the ever-increasing population. Once there used to be one library in each village but successive governments have failed to take care of them and were closed.
The Mayor promised to clear the cess to be paid by the corporation to the district library authorities at the earliest and stressed on the need to safe guard the public library system. It was planned to set up an ‘Employment tower’ for the use to unemployed youth, he added.
Warangal MP P Dayakar announced that he would allocate Rs 10 lakh from his MPLADs for the development of the district library. He asked the district library authorities to submit the proposals within a month on their requirements.
Warangal Urban District Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Md Aziz Khan stated that efforts were being made on fast phase towards the development of the libraries in the district with the help of the State government. He paid tributes to pioneer of library science in the county, S R Ranganathan.
KUDA Chairman M Yadava Reddy, the Samstha directors S Madhu, S Sampath, district central library secretary Padmaja, ‘Topudu Bandi’ Sheik Sadiq Ali, municipal corporators V Srinivas, Siva Shanker and others were present.
At a programme at KITSW, the institute secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Lakshmikantha Rao, director Y Manohar, principal Prof P Venkateshwar Rao and librarian R Lalitha asked the students to make better use of the college library.
