Warangal: Tension prevailed here on Tuesday as a large number of Bharatiya Janata Party workers who tried to hoist national flag at Police Parade Grounds were prevented and arrested by the police. The workers and leaders of the BJP have taken out a massive rally from Martyrs Memorial to police parade grounds in a bid to hoist national flag marking Telangana Liberation Day on the day. The rally was meant to protest the state government’s failure to declare the event as an official function.
The police have put up barricades at Nakkalagutta near APNPDCL office to prevent the protestors moving towards police headquarters where the parade grounds situated. At that time the protesters have scuffled with the police leading to tension.
However, the police overpowered the protestors who were hundreds in number and bundled them into vehicles. They were all taken to Subedari police station where the BJP workers continued their agitation.
They celebrated the event on the police station premises as a worker fastened the National Flag to a pillar atop the police station. They sang the National Anthem even as the police removed the flag and later cut a cake. Former MLAs M Dharma Rao, Jaipal, Vannala Sriramulu and M Satyanarayana Reddy, the party district president A Ashok Reddy, senior leaders Rao Padma, Rao Amarender Reddy, N Premender Reddy, and others were among those arrested.
