- Key meeting today to discuss the issue - Lobbying by corporate colleges for deferment?

eamcet dateThere is a slight possibility of change of date of declaration of Eamcet results i.e. June 2. Indications available from the top level suggest that the date is likely to be deferred by a day or two keeping in view of the multiplicity of entrance tests. Divergent views were expressed by officials of the Higher Education Council and Eamcet conducting team on the issue on Tuesday. A meeting will be held on Wednesday and the issue would be discussed threadbare and arrive at a common date, it is learnt.

"But as far as we are concerned, the scheduled date for declaration of results i.e. June 2 stands," Prof. NV Ramana Rao, convener of Eamcet told The Hans India.A Some officials of Higher Education council are of the view that keeping in view of the larger interests of the students, it would be better to defer it by a day so that the student will have some breathing space. But some others felt since counselling schedule has already been released, it is better to go ahead with the scheduled date of release. "Nearly four lakh students in engineering and medical streams are eagerly awaiting the results. The number of students who appear for other exams will be few thousands. So, there is no need to change the date" a senior official told The Hans India.

Lack of coordination among various educational bodies in India has been pushing lakhs of students across the nation under tight spot. June 2 is a day on which some key entrance examinations are going to take place and also declaration of results would be done. Eamcet results, for which nearly four lakh students have been eagerly awaiting, will be released on that day. JEE Advanced, the second key exam for admission into IITs will also take place same day. JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) will also be held on June 2 itself for which a number of students who studied at CBSE-syllabus schools have applied for admission into medical courses.

The exam timings of JIPMER and JEE Advanced clashed with each other. While JIPMER is to be conducted between 10 am to 12:30 noon, JEE Advanced exam's timings will be from 9am to 12 noon and again from 2 pm to 5 pm.A Sources in both the wings i.e. Council and Eamcet conducting team told this newspaper that some of the corporate colleges have been reportedly lobbying for deferment since Eamcet results announcement is a key day for them to canvass hard about the achievements of their students. "Naturally some of the likely rankers of Eamcet would be busy writing the JEE Advanced exams at that time and the managements cannot parade them before media on that eventful day.

The Higher Education Council plans to start counseling for engineering admissions from June 17 and it wants to ensure all issues such as fee structuring, colleges' availability, online mechanism are resolved before that date.
