Reading notes online, downloading complete books, getting notes photocopied have now become passé. Repeating what Sachets did for Shampoo sales, iTunes did for music sales, Attano, Interactive Educational eBook store has launched 'ChapterBuy', wherein the students don't have to buy the whole book but buy a particular chapter from the book from Attano.com. The cost of the chapter starts from Rs 3.50.
Soumya Banerjee, CEO, Attano, says "Our aim is to provide personalised education to students giving quality content. While a student studies a particular subject, he has to refer different books to study different chapters. Here they can just buy the chapter and read the material. Once he downloads a chapter, it will remain with him forever; he doesn't have to buy them every time he wants to read it. Along with this, it will also create a new market for publishers thwart the threat of piracy."
The content can be downloaded on iPads, android tablets and personal computers. "We have tied up with Pearson, Sheth publishers and Lakshmi publishers so all their books can be found on our website. The books also contain tests which can be taken by students. Sometimes the publishers also make videos available with the book. Even they can be accessed on our website." Sowmya added later.
With books for all the boards in school and Management, Engineering, Commerce, Arts and Science streams for Intermediate, Graduation, Post Graduation, Attano also has books for competitive exams. When asked about does he think students have really emerged from the concept of reading hard copy of books and are comfortable reading them online, Sowmya says "Students these days are more hooked to ipads, tablets and personal computers more than books and these devices are easier to carry.
The fundamental difference between reading from hard copy of books and reading it online is students here don't have to carry heavy books for one chapter and they can't tear chapters which they want to read from books whereas they can download a single chapter from Attano.
