5 IIITs Gets Status of Institution of National Importance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the cabinet and approved the IIITs Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

The union cabinet has approved five Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) to give the status of Institution of National Importance (INI). Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the cabinet, approved the IIITs Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020. "The bill will declare the remaining 5 IIITs-PPP along with the existing 15 IIITs in PPP mode as 'Institutions of National Importance' with powers to award degrees. These institutions will be authorised to use the nomenclature of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) or Master of Technology (MTech) or PhD degree as issued by a university or Institutions of National Importance.

The Act grants declare these IIITs as Institutions of National Importance along with 15 IIITs already existing under the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017.

1. IIIT Surat


2. IIIT Bhopal


3. IIIT Bhagalpur


4. IIIT Agartala


5. IIIT Raichur
