Hyderabad: As part of Covid-19 containment measures, the State government has ordered closure of all marriage halls and functions halls except for the marriage events already fixed and the same should be permitted with a limited number of guests not exceeding 200. It also gave instructions not to accept any new bookings until March 31.

However, according to owners of marriage halls and associations of hotels, which rent out their banquet halls for weddings and receptions, the wedding season lasts till June 29 and advance bookings for auspicious dates in March, April, May and June have already been booked several months prior in GHMC limits, where finding a suitable and convenient function hall is a herculean task.

While government has given permissions to families to go ahead with marriages and functions with a limited gathering till March 31, uncertainty prevails over marriages and receptions lined up in April atleast in first couple of weeks.

After instructions from government, police officials, it is learnt, are contacting function halls and marriage halls asking them to give information of bookings already made until now.

It is learnt that owners have been told to speak to the parties concerned and request them to postpone their functions scheduled in April at least in view of the prevailing circumstances and alert in wake of coronavirus.

Members of Telangana State Hotels Association and Hotels and Restaurants Association of Telangana State stated that they are awaiting more clarity from the government on weddings and functions slated in April.

"As per instructions we are not going to take new bookings. But these dates have been blocked several days in advance. Some may come forward to postpone but for others who are left with no options but to continue the function as per earlier decided muhurat, authorities must do a rethink.

They should be allowed to go ahead with limited gathering of 200 as being done until March 31," the members said.
