Hyderabad: "I too don't have my birth certificate... how do I prove from where I have come from? There were no hospitals when I was born... that means should I die?

When I don't have my own birth certificate from where will I bring my father's," said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressing concern over CAA and NPR.

The Chief Minister made these comments in the Assembly replying to the concerns raised by AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on CAA, NPR and NCR during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address.

The Chief Minister said that he was from a family of landlord with 540 acres and still did not have birth certificate how the Dalits, tribals or poor would get the certificate, he asked. There were no hospitals those days only the priests used to give 'Janma nama' to the newborn, he said.

"No civilised society will accept this... already respect has gone, the United Nations discussed this. We will respond, we will raise our vice. Is this turmoil needed for the country? We will do whatever we can... we cannot keep quiet," said Chandrashekar Rao.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Citizenship Amendment Act was against spirit of Constitution. There are concerns on CAA, NPR and the State Assembly would pass a resolution against the Act after discussing in the Assembly after a half day debate, said the Chief Minister.

He said that the CAA was against the very fabric of the constitution which promises to treat all citizens equally irrespective of their religion, caste and creed. He suggested the Centre to bring one national identity card if needed.
