Kothagudem: A tribal pregnant woman has to cross a stream on foot to reach the hospital at Rollagadda in Gundala mandal in the district.

According to sources, labour pains started for Esam Sandhya Rani on Friday and her husband Esam Yugander called 108 ambulance service to reach primary health centre at Gundala mandal headquarters. But the ambulance could not reach the village as an approach road constructed across the stream was washed away due to the recent rains. Woman's husband Yugander, ambulance staff and an Anganwadi worker helped Rani to walk through the stream.

District Collector MV Reddy took the incident seriously and expressed angry over the health officials. He told the DM&HO and RDO to enquiry into the incident independently and submit reports. The Collector also directed the engineering officials to speed up the ongoing construction works of a bridge across the stream. The woman gave birth to a baby boy and both the child and mother were safe, he said.
