Ghatkesar: It is not common for people who suffered from traumas or disorders in life to help other people in pain. For Jeevan Rao, 39, his bipolar disorder led to a turning point in his life. He decided to help others, especially children who are in pain or poverty. Several setbacks in his life like losing job and love failure did not deter him from his urge to help others.

Jeevan founded Asha Kuteer in 2013. He started with four children. Today, there are 110 children living in that Kuteer. For those children who do not have parents or guardians, loneliness and poverty can be worst enemies, says Jeevan.

The Kuteer is now providing care to children in three homes - one home is for orphan boys, the second is for orphan girls and the third is for visually challenged children. Currently, 42 girls, 36 boys and 30 visually challenged college boys stay in Asha Kuteer Homes.

On an average, the NGO spends close to Rs 3.5 lakh per month with the help from donations. Jeevan insists that donors buy rice bags and pay tuition fees, instead of depositing money. Last year, Telangana Social Welfare Association donated Rs 5.5 lakh.
