With the decrease in import, Onion prices in the city have touched Rs 150 kg in the city on Wednesday here at agricultural market in Malakpet.

Around 4,014 quintals of onions reached the city on Wednesday including 250 quintal from Maharashtra. While the high quality of onion priced at 150 per kg, other of normal and low quality was sold at Rs 130 and Rs 90 respectively.

The market authorities said that there was a decrease in the onions reaching the city from the last two days which resulted in the price hike. Meanwhile, the people in the city are having a tough time in managing the kitchen supplies as the onion prices soar.

An Onion trader said that the government should come forward and reduce the rates.

On the other hand, the government procured 500 metric tonnes of Onions from Egypt. It is likely to reach the city on December 7. These onions are primarily sold at Mehdipatnam and Saroornagar respectively.
