Ammuguda: An open Defence land at Ammaguda is used for garbage dumping by the residents of the area. This land belongs to College of Defence Management (CDM).

The residents who reside in apartments opposite the land have been dumping waste. Construction material and branches of trees too are left in the open land. "The also plot serves as an open urinal for men," deplores Sai Krishna, a resident.

Residents have also raised complaints about the way in which refuse is being dumped there. The plot is piled high with industrial and domestic waste and alcohol bottles. An overpowering stench emanates from the land. During monsoon, water remains stagnant on this landfill and there is gradual seepage.

People throw garbage disposal bags from vehicles and indiscriminate burning of garbage continue unabated, the rag picker scatter and set fire to it. Residents say people from other areas dump their waste while passing through the area.

"We are unable to open the windows due to the stench in the air," says a resident of Shanti Residency. "People should co-operate with the sanitation staff and dispose the garbage in the bins" says Vijayalakshmi, a resident of Vivekananda colony.
