Hanamkonda: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who promised to celebrate 'Telangana Liberation Day' officially during the movement for separate Statehood, has backtracked after he came to power, Warangal District Congress Committee (DCC) President Naini Rajender Reddy said. After hoisting national flag at the party office here on Tuesday, he said that Congress not only played a crucial role in the Indian independence but also merged Princely State of Hyderabad with the Indian Union. The merger had liberalised the people in Telangana from the despotic rule of the Nizams, he added.

"During the Telangana Movement, KCR as the chief of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) demanded the then Congress government to celebrate Liberation Day officially on September 17. However, after assuming power, KCR backtracked on his promise for vested interests," Reddy said.

While all parties and organisations cutting across their political lines were celebrating the Liberation Day, the Telangana government has shown blithe concern towards it. It's nothing but humiliation of people in Telangana, he said. 'Telangana is a result of sacrifices made by several people, and now it's in the clutches of KCR and his family. Time has come for the people to fight against the autocratic rule of KCR,' he added.

Former Mayor Errabelli Swarna, Greater Warangal Congress Committee president Katla Srinivas Rao, TPCC general secretary Namindla Srinivas, TPCC secretaries EV Srinivas Rao, Bathini Srinivas Rao, Kothapalli Srinivas, PCC members Ganga Rao Amrutha Rao, D Srinivas, Binny Laxman, T Rammohan Rao and Modem Sridhar Goud were among others present.
