Pink party to launch drive on June 27
Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has set itself a target of 60 lakh members as the pink party launches the membership drive from June 27. The party leadership wants to make the TRS a formidable force in Telangana.
After the grand victory of the party in the recently held Panchayat Raj and other local body elections, the TRS has decided to engage the party leaders in month-long leadership drive starting from June 27.
According to TRS leaders, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other important leaders, including ministers, would be renewing their membership at Telangana Bhavan on June 27.
The party has made the state committee leaders the responsibility of ensuring maximum enrolment. Each state committee leader has been given responsibility of two Assembly constituencies.
A senior TRS leader said that the state committee leaders would coordinate with the district leaders and MLAs in taking forward the membership drive.
Auspicious days are ending on June 27 as Ashada masam begins and there would be no new programme hence the party chief has decided to utilise the month for membership drive, said the TRS leader.
There are 60 members in the state committee and everyone would be getting two constituencies each, added the TRS leader. The TRS has been gaining strength in the state and during the previous occasions, the party had a membership of 50 lakh.
Each of the ten erstwhile districts was given targets of 5 lakh members. Warangal district topped with 5.34 lakh members and Nalgonda second with 5.05 lakh members. The party offers active and primary memberships and only the active member can contest the election.
While the active membership costs Rs 100, the primary membership Rs 20. The TRS members are covered under group insurance with Rs 2 lakh as accidental cover.
According to the TRS leader, this time the party would eye for 60 lakh members and wants to establish the pink party as the only formidable force in Telangana.
The party leaders are buoyed with the recent local body elections where it won 82 per cent of the seats and all Zilla Parishad chairperson posts.
