In rage, pond contractor sets 14 bikes of villagers on fire

Mellacheruvu (Suryapet): Tension prevailed in Kandibanda village of Mellacheruvu mandal in Huzurnagar constituency in the district on Thursday when the villagers in and around Kandibanda entered the village pond to catch the fish.

Soon, the Committee members of the waterbody expressed their objection to villagers fishing. This led to clashes between the two groups, with the members pelting stones at each other and attacking with sticks after heated arguments turned violent.

Expressing his angst over the villagers act, the respective contractor of the pond burnt 14 bikes belongs to villagers during the quarrel.

The contractor of the waterbody later informed the police that the villagers had looted Rs 25 lakh worth fish from the pond, and submitted videos and photos to corroborate his claims.

Based on the complaint of pond contractor, the local police filed cases against several villagers for entering the water body illegally for fishing and attacking the caretakers of the said pond.
