Civic body embarks on cleanliness drive in Tirupati
The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) embarked on a massive cleanliness drive-cum-awareness against vector borne diseases.
Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) embarked on a massive cleanliness drive-cum-awareness against vector borne diseases. The health initiative which kickstarted in 50th division on Thursday would continue till October 18 to cover all the notified slums areas in the fifty divisions in the pilgrim city.
Besides, taking up the cleaning of roads and drains, a door-to-door campaign is also taken up by the Corporation's Health and Malaria department to create and awareness among the residents on taking uppreventive measures to check breeding of mosquitoes mainly responsible for the vector borne diseases, said MCT Deputy Commissioner Chandramouliswar Reddy, who along with municipal health officer Dr DT Sudharani leading the 37-day long special drive.
The staff working in the Primary Health Centre (PHCs) and MEPMA health resource persons also joined with municipal workers in the door-to-door campaign distributing leaflets to create awareness on vector borne diseases.
Sudharani said that, as part of the drive, they are dropping oil balls in stagnated waters including in drains, removal discarded items like tiers, waste materials like coconut shells etc. which are the breeding points for mosquitoes were taken up.
The residents were also told to take up cleaning of ACs and ensure no water stagnation in flowerpots, tubs etc in their homes. to avoid mosquito breeding to check vector borne disease like dengue, malaria and chikungunya and also promptly approach doctors in case of any fever to anyone in their home.
Health Officer said spraying of 'Abate solution' and fogging also taken up as part of anti-larval operation on Thursday in the division covering Jeevakona, Rajiv Gandhi Colony, Santhoshamma Nagar and other localities in the day long special drive.
Simultaneously, the workers working in the 'Mobile Malaria Dengue Clinic (MMDC)' set up by the corporation also taken up house-to-house survey to identify any malaria or dengue cases, she said, adding that surveillance was set up around the two houses where dengue cases one each identified in the survey. The Corporation is taking all the preventive measures to check vector borne diseases, she said.
