Visakhapatnam: GVMC Commissioner G Srijana said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay foundation for a slew of projects and inaugurate several projects nearing completion in Visakhapatnam during his visit on December 13.

Sharing details with the media at her chambers on Saturday, she said about 24 such sanctioned projects would be launched or laid foundation during the Chief Minister's visit to the city scheduled on the occasion of Andhra University Alumni meet.

The projects include, the RK Beach redevelopment programme with shore protection taken up by the APDRP (Andhra Pradesh Disaster Recovery Project), social infra development in schools which is closely aligned with the 'Nadu-Nedu' programme initiated with the support of French Development Agency, development of green spaces and four parks, laying of pipelines, setting up of bio-mining at Kapuluppada and solar power plants, rejuvenation of Mudasarlova reservoir by restoring water sources and establishing smart roads and energy efficient motors, among several others.

"About 24 such projects are taken up at a cost of Rs 905.50 crore. While some of them are in finishing stage, others will be initiated soon with the foundation-stone laying ceremony by the Chief Minister," the Municipal Commissioner stated.

Further, Srijana said that every zone will have either a park or a green space depending on the availability of the area. Efforts were also on to facilitate a swimming pool in each zone.

With a major share of support extended by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, French Development Agency for the external aided projects, several development works were also being supported by the GVMC, VMRDA and Government of India. As part of the development projects, GVMC was contributing Rs 200 crore, she informed.

About delimitation of municipal wards, the Municipal Commissioner added that clarity on the proposed population of each ward is still awaited.
