A girl attempted suicide by jumping off the Pulligedda-Penumudi Bridge at Avanigadda in Krishna district. police said.

No sooner did they hear a thud in the water, 58 year old assistant sub inspector braved his life dived into the water early Sunday morning and rescued the girl, who attempted suicide by jumping from Pulligedda-Penumudi Bridge at Avanigadda in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

The rescued girl has been identified as a B. Sc student of a private college, who took the extreme step because of some personal problems.

The girl has been shifted to the nearby government hospital and presently being treated. The victims condition is said to be stable. Krishna district superintendent of Police Ravindranath Babu appreciated the efforts of Manikyala Rao.

Accolades are pouring in for the police personnel Rao and Gopiraju, who braved all odds to ensure a precious life was not forever. In doing so, they set a fine example to tens of people, who were around but oblivious of the imminent tragedy that stared them.

It is ironical that the two police personnel were part of a road-safety programme, 'No-Accident-Day near the Bridge'. It was then that they noticed the girl jumping into the river to end her life. They dived and successfully saved the girl in distress.
