Kurnool: An elderly couple committed suicide by consuming pesticide in their residence at P Lingapuram village in Jupadu Bunglow police station limits on Friday morning. The deceased were identified as Jayarami Reddy (55) and his wife Seshamma (50). The couple was survived with a son.

As per the information given by the Sub Inspector of Jupadu Bunglow police station, P Tirupal, Jayarami Reddy has cultivated cotton crop in 10 acres (own land 4 acres and lease 6 acres). The crop was in good state prior to lashing uninterrupted heavy rains in the district. The heavy rains damaged entire cotton crop cultivated in 10 acres, said the officer.

Jayarami Reddy has invested huge amount for pesticide, fertilisers and labour charges to raise the cotton crop. With the unexpected damage, unable to find ways to repay the debts borrowed has decided to end his life. With the thought he came home in depressed stated on Thursday night and shared his thought with his wife Seshamma.

Seshamma who supported her husbands decision consumed pesticide and both fell unconscious in their residence. At the time of the incident their only son, Bheemasena Reddy was not present. On his return he found both in motionless state and froth coming from their mouths. He immediately called neighbours besides informing police, said Tirupal.

With the information, we rushed to the residence and shifted the bodies to Nandikotkur hospital for autopsy. Case has been filed basing on the statement given by the deceased son, Bheemasena Reddy, the investigating officer, P Tirupal said. The officer has also said the couple was known to have tried two to three times to commit suicide on the same grounds.
