Rajamahendravaram: MP Margani Bharat Ram assured to develop the century-old Gowthami Regional Library (GRL) on all fronts and said that the library was a major landmark to the historical city.

Inaugurating the new building of the library along with Collector D Muralidhar Reddy and Commissioner Sumit Kumar here on Sunday, he said the new building was constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore.

He said that the new building was having the latest facilities including a reading room, a separate room for researchers, computers, Xerox facility, etc. Many research scholars across the state are coming to the library to refer rare and valualble books.

Steps will be taken to get national status to the library and the issue will be taken to the notice of respective department in the Union government. The Collector, D Muralidhar Reddy said that libraries are considered knowledge hubs and everyone should inculcate the habit of visiting libraries and the parents should send their children to the libraries where all category of books are available under one roof.

He assured to take initiative to strengthen the library in all aspects and said the library is having very rare and valuable books. The Corporation Commissioner, Sumit Kumar said an amount of Rs 3 crore was spent for the new building. Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary, digital programming coordinator Dr Aripirala Narayana Rao, librarian R Venkat Rao and others were present.
