Nellore: The TDP senior leader and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has demanded YSRCP government to postpone the civic polls over Covid-19 positive case in Nellore district.
Speaking to media at party office on Saturday, Reddy said that TDP is not afraid in facing the elections, but the polls should be postponed on the human grounds so that the people should be prevented from the spread of the virus.
On this occasion, Somireddy came down heavily on the state government that it is mining to complete the elections disregarding the safety of the people. He lambasted the district administration for not taking proper measures in controlling the virus and busy with preparations of the polls.
Despite this, if the government wants to conduct the elections, then he demanded to arrange thermal scanners at all polling stations and other public gatherings. He questioned the officials whether they could provide sanitizers at the booths and masks to lakhs of voters in the entire district.
He appreciated efforts of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who took excellent measures at the hospitals after the first case surfaced and said the state government has to learn such good practices from others.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who earlier neglected on the coronavirus is now ready to shut down Hyderabad, TDP leader said.
"In Nellore, Collector and other senior officials are focusing only on the elections, giving the least priority for taking measures to arrest the further spread of the virus. They are simply concentrating on how to remove candidates of opposition parties during the scrutiny. Nothing would happen if the polls are postponed to some other date," said Chandramohan Reddy.
Somireddy further said that he urged the Election Commission to postpone the local body elections due to fears of coronavirus and god only has to save crores of people in AP from the current miserable situation due to negligent attitude of the state government.
