Vijayawada: The Mala Mahanadu state secretary B Joni Kumari on Thursday demanded the State government to remove the indication boards of Harijanavada and Girijanavada across the state. She along with other members of Mala Mahanadu garlanded the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram.

Addressing the gathering, Joni Kumari said that even after the government issued orders to replace the indication boards with SC colony, ST colony, Ambedkar colony, Jagjeevan Ram colony, and with names of the freedom fighters and national leaders no action has been taken yet.

She said that still they found names like Harijanavada, Girijanavada, Relli, Yanadi, Mala, Madiga, Harijanapeta, and other boards on highways, residential colonies, community halls and other places. She said that even 70 years after independence.

caste discrimination and untouchability still persist in the society. She lamented that the government was forcefully taking back the assigned lands of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
