Polling held for Palasa and Itchapuram municipalities and Palakonda Nagara Panchayat

Srikakulam: Polling went off peacefully in all three vurban bodies in Srikakulam district on Wednesday.

Elections were held in Palasa, Itchapuram municipal towns and Palakonda Nagara Panchayat in the district. Polling began at 7 am and continued till 5 pm and the polling percentage reported by thel end of the polling was 71.52 in all the three urban local bodies.

In Palasa, total wards are 29 and polling centres 52, in Itchapuram town, total wards are 23 and polling centres are 36 and in Palakonda Nagara Panchayat total wards are 18 and polling centres 18. In Palasa total voters are 42,836 and of them 31,356 voters cast their votes recording a polling percentage of 73.20. In Itchapuram, total voters are 28,905 and of them 19,562 voters exercised their franchise and the voter turnout registered is 67.68%. In Palakonda Nagara Panchayat, total voters are 19,809 and of them 14,555 voters cast their votes. The polling percentage recorded is 73.48.

Total voters in three urban bodies are 95,550 and of them 65,473 cast their votes in the polls thus registering a voter turnout of 71.52. Counting of votes will be taken up on March 14. District Collector J Nivas and SP Amith Bardhar supervised the polling process at all the three urban bodies in the district.
