TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu slams Speaker Tammineni Sitaram for taking coronavirus threat lightly
- Laments he did not learn from the safeguards taken in Parliament like arranging partitions between members
- Points out that Home Minister attended Assembly after meeting an infected MLA
- Says YSRCP MLAs behaving like virus super spreaders
Mangalagiri: TDP national president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu strongly objected to the manner in which Speaker Tammineni Sitaram was not enforcing the Covid-19 preventive measures in the Assembly thus exposing all the MLAs and the MLCs who were attending the session to a serious risk.
He expressed surprise that at a time when exceptional safeguards were being taken in Parliament by erecting partitions between members, the AP Assembly Speaker was not taking any care for the health of the members and all those working there.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here on Thursday, the TDP chief said that YSRCP MLA Karumuri Nageswara Rao had asked all his party leaders to go for self-quarantine since he had reported positive for the virus on Wednesday.
The home minister attended a meeting with the infected MLA but still she came to the Assembly without a facemask. Almost all the ruling party MLAs and MLCs were not wearing masks nor observing social distance in utter disregard for the general health of everyone, he said.
He said that the Speaker should act like a responsible custodian of the well-being of all members of the Assembly but he was not at all bothered to take precautionary measures.
The Chief Minister and his party leaders did not learn any lessons after Tirupati MP Balli Durga Prasada Rao died due to infection, he said.
Naidu termed it as unfortunate that even the temperature of the MLAs was not being checked before entry into the Assembly.
The YSRCP and the Chief Minister were continuing their negligent attitude and they seemed to be still sticking to their old comments like the virus was just a small health problem which could be cured with 'Paracetamol' and 'bleaching powder. It should be noted that the vaccine being made available now was only 90 to 95 per cent effective. Moreover, there might be side effects as per experts. In such a situation, the Speaker and the Chief Minister should take all possible steps, he added.
