Nellore: TDP senior leader and politburo member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy on Saturday demanded that the State government postpone elections to the local bodies in the district in view of the first covid-19 case reported.

Somireddy also said the State government was going ahead with the election schedule ignoring the people's safety. The district administration has also failed to take measures. He appealed to the officials not to ignore the people's safety. He demanded that the government instal thermal scanners at polling centres and at important placeswhere there are mass gatherings for screening the people if itis determined to conduct the elections at any cost. He asked the officials whether they can sanitise all polling booths and provide masks to around 23 lakh voters in the entire district. The officials are trying to get appreciations from the Chief Minister, he said. He appreciated efforts of the Delhi Chief Minister for taking measures to contain the virus. Chief Minister of Telangana KChandrashekar Raohas now ready to shut down even Hyderabad city, hes said.

"In Nellore, Collector and other senior officials are focusing only on the elections. They giving least priority tocontain spread of virus.

He also requested the State Election Commissioner to postpone the polls due to fears of coronavirus.
