Tourist boat capsizes in river at East Godavari, 36 missing

A tourist boat carrying 61 passengers was capsized in a river near Kacchuluru of Devipatnam. With the early reports coming from, around 25 passengers are said to have reached shore safely.

As the floodwater in the river reduced, the authorities have accorded permission for boating in the river. Of the 61, 50 are passengers and 11 are said to be crew members. The mishap took place when the passengers are heading to Papikondalu from Gandi Pochamma temple in the tourist boat 'Royal Vasista'.

The rescue teams are alerted and carrying the search operations to trace the passengers.

Earlier, a tourist boat 'Udaya Bhaskar' carrying 60 passengers capsized at the same place in 1964. In another incident, eight people were drowned after a tourist boat 'Jhansi Rani' capsized.
