Amaravati: The state government is moving ahead with its proposal to complete the Visakha Metro Rail project with 10 corridors covering 140.14 km in Visakhapatnam.

The officials on Tuesday submitted a detailed project report for the Metro Rail project. It would begin from the RK Beach to Steel Plant area and is expected to be completed by 2024.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the officials to prepare plans in such a way that this project would be remembered by the next generations. He said focus should be on providing good infrastructural facilities like adequate parking place at the stations and main junctions.

The Metro Rail project would be taken up in three phases. The main corridor wold be from Kurmanapalem to Madhurwada. One route will go to East Point Colony, while another will be to the Old Post Office area. It is estimated that the project would cost Rs 8,300 crore.
