Eluru: West Godavari district election observer Himanshu Shukla has called upon political parties to stick to the model code of conduct to ensure a free and fair poll.
At a meeting with the leaders of all political parties, he made an appeal to the parties to respect the code for maintaining transparency in the ensuing elections to the local bodies.
The candidates contesting for ZPTCs should not spend beyond Rs 4 lakh and those for MPTCs restrict their poll expenditure to Rs 2 lakh.
They should not seek votes on the basis of religion, caste and group. The places of worship like temples, churches and mosques should not be made platforms for election campaign. Campaign with loud speakers should be limited between 6 am and 10 pm with prior permission.
He informed the political parties to obtain written permission for using any public or private property from the concerned to display election posters, banners and flags. Removal of other contestants' poll material like posters should not be entertained, he added.
