Bengaluru: Taking a jibe at Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa over his statement that he will complete his term, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D.K. Shivakumar said that nobody had questioned his authority over the post.

"Why did the CM say that he will be in office for the next two years? Have we questioned his authority? What is the need for clarity on this?" Shivakumar asked.

He further elaborated that the BJP MLAs were talking about the change in leadership and if the CM made such a statement, "it shows there is a danger from within the party".

Yediyurappa had recently stated that he would complete his term till 2023.

The senior Congress leader criticised the government's preparedness to deal with the new strain of Covid.

The government could have checked the passengers upon their arrival at the airport instead of allowing them to go to their destinations, said the KPCC leader reacting to several UK returnees remaining untraceable.

"This shows the failure of the administration at the State and central level. The infection has spread from other parts of the world. They should have been tested and the spread of the virus controlled early," Shivakumar said.

Commenting over the Gram Panchayat elections, he said that the party was satisfied with the performances of its workers who fought against the 'money' and 'power'.

"I am happy with the party's performance. Despite being in the opposition we have performed very well," he stated.
